Design
Interface -
Understand user requirements, Influence system
design for supportability, Identify a cost effective
approach for support, Ensure support structure
elements are developed, acquired, and delivered.

Maintenance
Planning -
The one ILS element that has the greatest influence
on the other support elements as well as on the
actual design of the end item. The
process of arranging all elements of
maintenance support. |

Facilities
- Consists of the
real property assets required to support a system,
including studies to define types of facilities or
facility improvements, location, space needs,
environmental requirements, and equipment. |

Supply
Support -
Consists of all management actions, procedures, and
techniques necessary to determine requirements to
acquire, catalog, receive, store, transfer, issue
and dispose of spares, repair parts, and supplies. |

Support
Equipment - Is made up of all
equipment (mobile or fixed) required to support the
operation and maintenance of a system. I like
to call this element Support & Test Equipment (S&TE) |

Training/Training
Devices -
Consists of the processes, procedures, techniques,
training devices, and equipment used to train
civilian and military personnel to operate and
support a system. |

Technical
Data -
Represents information, such as manuals and
drawings, of scientific or technical nature.
Computer programs and related software are not
technical data; documentation of computer programs
and related software. |

Computer
Resources Support - Encompasses the
facilities, hardware, software, documentation,
manpower, and personnel needed to operate and
support mission critical computer hardware/software. |

Packaging,
Handling, Storage, and Transport - Resources, Processes,
Procedures, Design, Methods to ensure
all system, equipment, and support items are
preserved, packaged, handled, and transported
properly. |

Manpower
and Personnel - Involves the
identification and acquisition of personnel
(military & civilian) with the skills and grades
required to operate, maintain, and support systems
over their lifetime. |
